Kerala Cartoon Academy Events

  The governing committee succeeded in creating a website that would bring the activities of the Kerala Cartoon Academy to the entire world and serve as a single-window platform for more than ten of the Academy's blogs. The Kerala Cartoon Academy website, www.keralacartoonacademy.com, was officially launched to the world on March 30, 2010, by the cartoonists' beloved friend and iconic figure, Leader K. Karunakaran. The event was held at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram and was attended by Union Minister of State for Agriculture Professor K. V. Thomas, cartoonist Sukumar, P. V. Krishnan, Kerala Cartoon Academy Secretary Sudhir Nath, Vice Chairman Sathyadev, Dwijith Payyanur, and others. Renowned British cartoonist Michael Bonsa Ozdowiski participated in the "Meet the Cartoonist" program held on March 3, 2010, at Bharat Tourist Home, Ernakulam. The Cartoon Academy organized the event in collaboration with the Ernakulam Press Club and Nanappa Art Gallery. At the program, moderated by Justice Thottathil Ravindran, K. L. Mohanavarma, artist Kaladharan, Cartoon Academy Chairman Prasannan Anikkad, Secretary Sudhirnath, and Sajeev spoke. The Kerala Cartoon Academy and the British Council organized a one-day cartoon workshop for young cartoonists on the theme of global warming and climate change on March 3, 2010, at Bharat Tourist Home, Ernakulam. Thirty-five selected young cartoonists from South India, including three women, participated in the one-day workshop, which was attended by national and international cartoonists. Renowned British cartoonist Michael Bonza Ozdowiscki led the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by S. R. Sakthidharan, Chairman of the Kerala Press Academy, at a function presided over by Prasannan Anikkad, Chairman of the Kerala Cartoon Academy. C. N. Karunakaran, Chairman of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, was the chief guest. The Kerala Cartoon Academy created a platform in Kochi to discuss an issue that the world is talking about. In collaboration with the British Council and with the support of the Ernakulam Press Club, the Kerala Cartoon Academy inaugurated the initiative by organizing a cartoon exhibition at the Ernakulam Press Club Art Gallery from March 2 to 6. The exhibition featured cartoons by cartoonists from India and abroad based on the themes of global warming and climate change. The cartoon exhibition was inaugurated at 11:30 a.m. on March 2 at the Ernakulam Press Club Art Gallery by retired Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer, who marked the occasion by drawing a cartoon. The third Cartoon-Animation Fest, Aniyug 2010, was held on February 28 and March 1, 2010, at two venues—the Thrikkakara EMS Cooperative Library and the Kerala Press Academy—with the aim of opening up opportunities for cartoonists in the field of animation. Renowned film director Sashi Paravoor served as the director of Aniyug. On February 28, the inaugural ceremony was held at the Thrikkakara EMS Cooperative Library Hall, where renowned film actor Salim Kumar inaugurated Cartoon-Animation Fest Aniyug 2010. As part of honoring Oscar award winners Rasul Pookutty and A. R. Rahman, the Academy decided to compile their caricatures into a book and present it to them. The Academy also succeeded in compiling caricatures of the world-renowned music composer A. R. Rahman and showcasing them to the world through a blog. At a simple ceremony held at the Ernakulam Press Club on the morning of March 1, 2010, the A. R. Rahman caricature blog was inaugurated by the renowned singer Biju Narayanan. Academy Secretary Sudhir Nath also attended the event.
