*Master Class: Launch of the Cartoons Initiative*
On Thursday, June 25, a master class titled *"The Digital World and Lines"* was held at the YMCA Hall in Thiruvananthapuram. The *Cartoons* initiative, jointly launched by the Kerala Cartoon Academy and Toons Media Group, was inaugurated by Dr. B. Ashok IAS, Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department. Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairman Sudheer Nath, Secretary K. Satheesh, and representatives from Toons Animation—P.K. Vijayakumar, Karthik, and Vinod—also addressed the gathering.
The master class proved highly beneficial for professionals working in animation, cartooning, and design by introducing modern technologies. Experts from their respective fields demonstrated how AI technology can enhance illustrations, showcased the latest techniques in animation, and introduced VFX.
Arun Sasi, Leader of Friends of Figma at Technopark and a renowned UX Analyst, conducted a session on communication design for web and mobile applications. Ajay Srinivasan from the Government of India's IICT, Mumbai, spoke about game design and AR/VR technologies. Meghana Tirumalasetty, a prominent leader associated with Women in Animation, Hyderabad, led a session on the possibilities of VFX in animation.
Addressing the conference, Dr. B. Ashok IAS, Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Government of Kerala, explained the rapid growth of the Orange Economy. He pointed out that creative industries have now become a stable and promising employment sector. He stated that although Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support creativity, it cannot replace human imagination and artistic thinking, and emphasized that the government supports the immense opportunities in this field.
A major highlight of the seminar was the first-ever presentation in India of a human-centered Digital Twin technology developed by the American company Praxis in collaboration with Risaya Academy, Bengaluru. Designed specifically for creative education, this Digital Twin technology aims to support teachers and promote the concept of *"AI for Good."* It can evaluate human-created work by comparing it with global standards and assist in creative activities. The innovation is expected to establish new benchmarks for professionals in animation, game development, AR/VR, and related fields. In addition, it will enhance the learning experience by providing students with 24-hour digital teacher assistance, making education more accessible and effective.
A total of 144 delegates from various schools and colleges across the state participated in the seminar, along with twelve academy members. They received detailed insights into national and international opportunities in the Orange Economy.
During the subsequent career guidance session, Toons Media Group and Risaya Academy announced strategic partnerships with leading educational institutions, including Dayananda Sagar University (Bengaluru), Sandip University (Nashik), Northern Arizona University (USA), and Studio Street (Bengaluru).
Certificates were distributed to the delegates by renowned film actor Ravindran, senior journalist Venkitesh Ramakrishnan, and A. Satheesh.
