P. K. Mantri Cartoon Exhibition

On February 22, Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian inaugurated a month-long exhibition of selected political cartoons by the renowned cartoonist P. K. Mantri at the Cartoonist Shankar Memorial Cartoon Museum Gallery in Kayamkulam. In our country, there are ministers and former ministers. Today's ministers become former ministers when their term ends. But there is only one person who remains a minister forever—cartoonist P. K. Mantri. Cartoonist Mantri occupied a unique place in the history of Malayalam cartoons. It was in the 1950s that he gained public attention and shone in periodicals and daily newspapers. His drawings remained influential for more than three decades. Most of his cartoons were directed against social injustice. Kerala society as a whole was captivated by his thoughts and humor. The exhibition features the works of P. K. Mantri, who continuously created cartoons that made the people of Kerala laugh and think, while also wielding a sharp critique against the government through his drawings and captions.

At the function, chaired by Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Chairperson Murali Cheeroth, Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairperson Sudheer Nath delivered the introductory address. During the event, Alli Sinilal, the daughter-in-law of cartoonist P. K. Mantri, handed over a collection of his cartoons to the Cultural Affairs Minister for preservation. Kayamkulam MLA U. Prathibha, journalist Kiran Babu, Raji R. Pillai (Secretary-in-Charge, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi), A. Satheesh (Secretary, Kerala Cartoon Academy), and others attended and spoke at the function. Kerala Cartoon Academy distinguished member E. P. Peter, Joint Secretary Sajeev Sooranad, executive committee members Mohanakumar Nair, Suresh Harippad, Haridas Mohan, and member Karthika Kattanam also participated in the event. The exhibition has been organized jointly by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and the Kerala Cartoon Academy.

പി. കെ. മന്ത്രി കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ പ്രദര്‍ശനം

ഫെബ്രുവരി 22 ന് പ്രശസ്ത കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി.കെ. മന്ത്രിയുടെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകളുടെ ഒരു മാസം നീണ്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന പ്രദര്‍ശനം കായംകുളത്തുള്ള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് ശങ്കര്‍ സ്മാരക കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ മ്യൂസിയം ഗ്യാലറിയില്‍ സാംസ്കാരിക വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രി സജി ചെറിയാന്‍ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടില്‍ മന്ത്രിമാരും മുന്‍ മന്ത്രിമാരും ഉണ്ട്. ഇന്നത്തെ മന്ത്രിമാര്‍ കാലം കഴിയുമ്പോള്‍ മുന്‍ മന്ത്രിമാരാവും. എന്നാല്‍ എക്കാലത്തും മന്ത്രിയായി ഒരേ ഒരാളേയുള്ളൂ, കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി. കെ. മന്ത്രി. മലയാള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ വേറിട്ട ഏടായിരുന്നു കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് മന്ത്രിയുടേത്. അന്‍പതുകളിലാണ് കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് മന്ത്രി ജനശ്രദ്ധയാകര്‍ഷിച്ച് ആനുകാലികങ്ങളിലും  ദിനപത്രങ്ങളിലും തിളങ്ങിയത്. മൂന്നുപതിറ്റാണ്ടിലേറെ ആ വരകള്‍ മായാതെനിന്നു. സാമൂഹിക അനീതിക്കെതിരേയായിരുന്നു വരകളധികവും. കേരളീയ സമൂഹം ഒന്നടങ്കം അതിന്‍റ ചിന്തയിലും ചിരിയിലും മയങ്ങി. വരകളും വരികളും കൊണ്ട് കേരള ജനതയെ ചിരിപ്പിച്ചും ചിന്തിപ്പിച്ചും ഭരണകൂടത്തിന് എതിരെ വാളോങ്ങിയും നിരന്തരം കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ രചന നടത്തിയ പി. കെ. മന്ത്രിയുടെ വരകളാണ് കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ പ്രദര്‍ശനത്തിലുള്ളത്. 

കേരള ലളിതകലാ അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സന്‍ മുരളി ചീരോത്ത് അദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായിരുന്ന ചടങ്ങില്‍ കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍ സുധീര്‍ നാഥ് ആമുഖ പ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. ചടങ്ങില്‍ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി.കെ. മന്ത്രിയുടെ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ സമാഹാരം സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിന് മരുമകള്‍ അല്ലി സിനിലാല്‍ മന്ത്രി സാംസ്കാരിക മന്ത്രിക്ക് കൈമാറി. ചടങ്ങില്‍ കായംകുളം എം.എല്‍.എ. യു പ്രതിഭ, മാധ്യമ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകന്‍ കിരണ്‍ ബാബു, രാജി ആര്‍ പിള്ള (സെക്രട്ടറി ഇന്‍ ചാര്‍ജ്, കേരള ലളിത കലാ അക്കാദമി), എ സതീഷ് ( സെക്രട്ടറി, കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി) തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ ചടങ്ങില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത് സംസാരിച്ചു. കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി വിശിഷ്ടാംഗം ഇ പി പീറ്റര്‍, ജോയിന്‍റ് സെക്രട്ടറി സജീവ് ശൂരനാട്, നിര്‍വാഹക സമിതി അംഗങ്ങളായ മോഹനകുമാര്‍ നായര്‍, സുരേഷ് ഹരിപ്പാട്, ഹരിദാസ് മോഹന്‍, അംഗമായ കാര്‍ത്തിക കറ്റാനം എന്നിവരും ചടങ്ങില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു. കേരള ലളിത കലാ അക്കാദമിയും, കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമിയും ചേര്‍ന്നാണ് പ്രദര്‍ശനം ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
