**Cartoonist P. K. Manthri Remembered in the Capital**

Ahead of the elections, with a discussion seeking the future direction of Kerala, its people, and cartoons, the book *P. K. Manthri*, containing the memoirs and cartoons of P. K. Manthri, was released when his daughter-in-law, Alli Sinilal Manthri, presented copies to those on the dais. Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairperson Sudheer Nath presided over the function. The event was inaugurated by Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V. V. Rajesh, and M. M. Hassan, M. Vijayakumar, Academy Secretary A. Satheesh, and cartoonist Haridas Balakrishnan spoke on the occasion.

Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V. V. Rajesh remarked that although social media exerts a widespread influence on society, cartoons have not lost their depth or sharpness. Powerful and incisive cartoons continue to be created in Malayalam. The Mayor added that cartoons still serve as guides in the social and political spheres, which is a matter of pride.

M. M. Hassan said that there are ministers and former ministers in our country. Today's ministers will eventually become former ministers, but cartoonist P. K. Manthri is someone who will remain a “minister” forever.

Manthri’s cartoons opposing the Emergency created considerable political controversy. Among them were cartoons depicting a policeman teaching children with a baton during the teachers’ agitation and a cartoon drawn without lines, with black ink poured across the paper, protesting the suppression of press freedom. Cartoonist P. K. Manthri passed away prematurely at the age of fifty-one. M. Vijayakumar said that had Manthri lived longer, many more wonders would have emerged from him in the field of cartooning.

Turning into book form the works of P. K. Manthri, who continuously created cartoons that made the people of Kerala laugh and think while fearlessly criticizing those in power through his drawings and words, is an unforgettable achievement for the Kerala Cartoon Academy. Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairperson Sudheer Nath said that this initiative helps introduce P. K. Manthri, a shining star in the history of Malayalam cartoons, to the younger generation while also reminding the older generation of his contributions.

Distinguished members of the Kerala Cartoon Academy including G. Hari, M. S. Mohanachandran, senior cartoonist Madhu Omalloor, executive committee members Harish Mohan and K. B. Balachandran, and members Vamanapuram Mani, Jyothish Vembayam, Swathi Jayakumar, Krishnakumar Vattapparambil, Naveen Vattappara, and others attended the function.

കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി. കെ. മന്ത്രി ഓര്‍മ്മയില്‍ തലസ്ഥാനം

തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിന് മുന്‍പ് കേരളത്തിന്‍റെയും ജനങ്ങളുടെയും കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിന്‍റെയും തലവര തേടുന്ന ഒരു സംവാദത്തോടെ പി. കെ. മന്ത്രിയുടെ ഓര്‍മ്മകുറിപ്പുകളും കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകളുമടങ്ങിയ പി. കെ. മന്ത്രി എന്ന പുസ്തകം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ മരുമകള്‍ അല്ലി സിനിലാല്‍ മന്ത്രി വേദിയിലുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് സമ്മാനിച്ച് പ്രകാശിപ്പിച്ചു. ചടങ്ങില്‍ കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍ സുധീര്‍ നാഥ് അദ്ധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ചു. തിരുവനന്തപുരം മേയര്‍ വി. വി. രാജേഷ് ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്ത ചടങ്ങില്‍ എം.എം. ഹസന്‍, എം. വിജയകുമാര്‍, അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറി എ. സതീഷ്, കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് ഹരിദാസ് ബലക്യഷ്ണന്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ സംസാരിച്ചു. 

സാമൂഹ്യ മാധ്യമങ്ങളിലെ സ്വാധീനം വ്യാപകമായി സമൂഹത്തില്‍ ചെലുത്തുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകളുടെ സമഗ്രതയും മൂര്‍ച്ചയും കുറഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് തിരുവനന്തപുരം മേയര്‍ വി വി രാജേഷ് അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. മൂര്‍ച്ചയേറിയതും ശക്തവുമായ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകള്‍ ഇന്നും മലയാളത്തില്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നുണ്ട്. സാമൂഹിക രാഷ്ട്രീയ രംഗത്തെ വഴികാട്ടികളായി ഇന്നും കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകള്‍ മാറുന്നു എന്നുള്ളത് നമുക്ക് അഭിമാനിക്കാം എന്ന് മേയര്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു. നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടില്‍ മന്ത്രിമാരും മുന്‍ മന്ത്രിമാരും ഉണ്ട്. ഇന്നത്തെ മന്ത്രിമാര്‍ കാലം കഴിയുമ്പോള്‍ മുന്‍ മന്ത്രിമാരാവും. എന്നാല്‍ എക്കാലത്തും മന്ത്രിയായി തുടരുന്ന വ്യക്തിയാണ് കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി. കെ. മന്ത്രി എന്ന് എം. എം ഹസന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. 

അടിയന്തരാവസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് എതിരെയുള്ള മന്ത്രിയുടെ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകള്‍ രാഷ്ട്രീയ രംഗത്ത് ഏറെ കോളിളക്കം സ്യഷ്ടിച്ചു. അധ്യാപക സമരകാലത്ത് ലാത്തികൊണ്ട് കുട്ടികളെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പോലീസുകാരന്‍, പത്രസ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ ധ്വംസനത്തിനെതിരെ കറുത്ത മഷി പേപ്പറില്‍ കോരിയൊഴിച്ച് വരയില്ലാതെ വരച്ച കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍. കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി. കെ. മന്ത്രി അന്‍പത്തൊന്നാം വയസില്‍ അകാലത്തില്‍ മരിച്ചു. മന്ത്രി ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ രംഗത്ത് ഇനിയുമെത്രയോ അത്ഭുതങ്ങള്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ഉണ്ടാകുമായിരുന്നെന്ന് എം. വിജയകുമാര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. വരകളും വരികളും കൊണ്ട് കേരള ജനതയെ ചിരിപ്പിച്ചും ചിന്തിപ്പിച്ചും ഭരണകൂടത്തിന് എതിരെ വാളോങ്ങിയും നിരന്തരം കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ രചന നടത്തിയ പി. കെ. മന്ത്രിയുടെ വരകള്‍ പുസ്തക രൂപത്തിലാക്കിയത് കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമിക്ക് അവിസ്മരണീയമായ ഒരു കാര്യമാണ്. മലയാള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ശുഭ്ര നക്ഷത്രമായ പി. കെ. മന്ത്രിയെ പുതുതലമുറയ്ക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്താനും, പഴയ തലമുറയെ ഓര്‍മ്മപ്പെടുത്താനും ഈ സംരംഭത്തിലൂടെ സാധ്യമാകുന്നു എന്ന കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി ചെര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍ സുധീര്‍ നാഥ് പറഞ്ഞു.

കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി വിശിഷ്ടാംഗങ്ങളായ ജി. ഹരി, എം. എസ്. മോഹനചന്ദ്രന്‍, മുതിര്‍ന്ന കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് മധു ഓമല്ലൂര്‍, കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി നിര്‍വാഹക സമിതി അംഗങ്ങളായ ഹരീഷ് മോഹന്‍, കെ. ബി. ബാലചന്ദ്രന്‍, അംഗങ്ങളായ വാമനപുരം മണി, ജ്യോതിഷ് വെമ്പായം, സ്വാതി ജയകുമാര്‍, ക്യഷ്ണകുമാര്‍ വട്ടപ്പറമ്പില്‍, നവീന്‍ വട്ടപ്പാറ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ ചടങ്ങില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.
