Suresh Eriyat is now a Cartoon Academy Icon
Suresh Eriyat, a native of Tripunithura who has won the Annecy Crystal Award—the Oscar of the animation world—twice and has received the National Film Award for animation films three times, was conferred the Kerala Cartoon Academy Icon title on December 29, 2025. The title was presented by his father, P.N.K. Panikkar, at a home-style ceremony held at Kedaram House in Vadakkekotta, the residence of Suresh Eriyat in Tripunithura.
Panikkarettan, a major cartoon character with a huge fan following across the country, is the central character in Suresh Eriyat’s animation series *Kandittundu*. The ceremony was presided over by Kerala Cartoon Academy Vice Chairperson Anoop Radhakrishnan, while Tripunithura Municipal Chairman P.L. Babu attended as the chief guest.
Kerala Cartoon Academy Treasurer Sajeev Balakrishnan, former Chairpersons Adv. M.M. Monayi and K. Unnikrishnan, Academy Icon Anjan Satheesh, Cartoon Director Adv. P.U. Noushad, Executive Committee members Sunil Pankaj, Ratheesh Ravi, Balachandran K.B., members Rajan Aranmula, Anu K. Pillai, Ajayakumar S., Tenzing, and artist Binuraj Kalapeedam, among others, participated in the function.

അനിമേഷന് രംഗത്തെ ഓസ്ക്കാറായ അനസി ക്രിസ്റ്റല് അവാര്ഡ് രണ്ട് തവണ ലഭിക്കുകയും മൂന്നുതവണ അനിമേഷന് ചിത്രത്തിന് ദേശീയ ചലചിത്ര പുരസ്കാരം നേടുകയും ചെയ്ത തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ സ്വദേശി സുരേഷ് ഏറിയാട്ടിന് 2025 ഡിസംബര് 29ന് കേരള കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമി ഐക്കണ് പദവി നല്കി. തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറയിലെ സുരേഷ് ഏറിയാട്ടിന്റെ വടക്കേകോട്ടയില് കേദാരം വീട്ടില് ഗൃഹാന്തരീക്ഷത്തില് നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അച്ഛന് പി.എന്.കെ പണിക്കരാണ് ഐക്കണ് പദവി കൈമാറിയത്. സുരേഷ് ഏറിയാട്ടിന്റെ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്ന അനിമേഷന് സീരീസില് പ്രധാന കാര്ട്ടൂണ് കഥാപാത്രമാണ് രാജ്യമെങ്ങും വലിയ ആരാധകരുള്ള പണിക്കരേട്ടന്. കേരള കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമി വൈസ് ചെയര്പേഴ്സണ് അനൂപ് രാധാക്യഷ്ണന് അദ്ധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ച ചടങ്ങില് തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ നഗരസഭ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷന് പി. എല് ബാബു മുഖ്യാതിഥിയായിരുന്നു. കേരള കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമി ട്രഷറര് സജ്ജീവ് ബാലക്യഷ്ണന്, മുന് ചെയര്പേഴ്സണ്മാരായ അഡ്വ: എം.എം. മോനായി, കെ. ഉണ്ണിക്യഷ്ണന്, അക്കാദമി ഐക്കണ് അന്ജന് സതീഷ്, കാരിട്ടൂണ് ഡയറക്ടര് അഡ്വ: പി. യു നൗഷാദ്, നിര്വാഹക സമിതി അംഗങ്ങളായ സുനില് പങ്കജ്, രതീഷ് രവി, ബാലചന്ദ്രന് കെ. ബി, അംഗങ്ങളായ രാജന് ആറന്മുള, അനു കെ. പിള്ള, അജയകുമാര് എസ്, ടെന്സിംഗ്, ചിത്രകാരന് ബിനുരാജ് കലാപീഠം തുടങ്ങിയവര് ചടങ്ങില് പങ്കെടുത്തിരുന്നു.
