Toon Craft - Season 1 -Skill Development Orientation Camp

A three-day skill development orientation camp for cartoonists who are members of the Kerala Cartoon Academy was held at Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, on August 8, 9, and 10, 2025. The camp, titled ToonCraft@Kovalam, was organized with the objective of introducing modern technologies such as AI and digital drawing to cartoonists. On the morning of August 8, the camp was inaugurated by Kerala Department of Culture Director Divya S. Iyer at a function held in the YMCA Hall, Thiruvananthapuram, under the chairmanship of Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairperson Sudheer Nath. Kerala Cartoon Academy Secretary A. Satheesh and Treasurer B. Sajeev spoke at the event. The book *Cartoonist*, written by cartoonist Sudheer Nath and published by Green Books, which narrates the life stories of 51 cartoonists, was released by Divya S. Iyer by presenting the first copy to senior cartoonist E.P. Peter. Green Books Managing Director Narendran, Academy Vice Chairpersons Anoop Radhakrishnan and K.V.M. Unni, and Treasurer B. Sajeev participated in the function.

During the second half of the first day, at a function held at Toonz Animation in Technopark, former ISRO Chairman and distinguished member of the Kerala Cartoon Academy Dr. S. Somanath delivered the introductory address. Toonz CEO P. Jayakumar Media Group was the chief guest. Camp participants also visited the Toonz Animation Studio on the first day.

On the second day, August 9, at the camp held at Kovalam Sagara Beach Resort, sessions led by Toonz Animation Vice Chairman A.S. Vinod on AI and by Antony on digital drawing were noteworthy. At 4 p.m., the book *The History of Comics in Kerala: A Study*, written by former Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairman M.M. Monayi and published by the Kerala Media Academy, was released at the Kovalam camp. At a meeting chaired by Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairperson Sudheer Nath, Dr. S. Somanath released the book by handing over the first copy to Toonz Media Group CEO P. Jayakumar. Advocate M.M. Monayi, Kerala Cartoon Academy Secretary A. Satheesh, and Kerala Media Academy Secretary Anil Bhaskar spoke at the event.

On the third day, August 10, the camp was also held at Kovalam Sagara Beach Resort. Among the Cartoon Academy members are individuals working in the digital field, and the first session was an interaction with them. Prathapan Pulimath, Sajeev Balakrishnan, Ratheesh Ravi, Anoop Radhakrishnan, and Suresh Da Vinci participated and spoke. Toonz Animation Vice Chairman A.S. Vinod from Thiruvananthapuram and Ullas Antony, son of former Academy Secretary Thomas Antony and a project manager in Artificial Intelligence, also interacted with the camp participants.

നൈപുണ്യ വികസന ഓറിയന്‍റേഷന്‍ ക്യാമ്പ്

കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി അംഗങ്ങളായ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ക്കായി മൂന്ന് ദിവസം നീണ്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന നൈപുണ്യ വികസന ഓറിയന്‍റേഷന്‍ ക്യാമ്പ് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് കോവളത്ത് 2025 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 8,9,10 തിയതികളില്‍ നടത്തി. എ.ഐ, ഡിജിറ്റല്‍ ഡ്രോയിങ്ങ് എന്നീ ആധുനിക സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യകള്‍ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെയാണ് ടൂണ്‍ക്രാഫ്റ്റ്@കോവളം എന്ന പേരില്‍ ക്യാമ്പ് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചത്. ആഗസ്റ്റ് 8ന് രാവിലെ കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍ സുധീര്‍നാഥിന്‍റെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷതയില്‍ തിരുവനന്തപുരം വൈ.എം.സി.എ. ഹാളില്‍ നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില്‍ ക്യാമ്പ് കേരള സാംസ്കാരിക വകുപ്പ് ഡയറക്ടര്‍ ദിവ്യ എസ് അയ്യര്‍ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറി എ. സതീഷ്, ട്രഷറര്‍ ബി. സജ്ജീവ് എന്നിവര്‍ സംസാരിച്ചു. 51 കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളുടെ ജീവിത കഥ പറയുന്ന കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് സുധീര്‍ നാഥ് രചിച്ച് ഗ്രീന്‍ ബുക്സ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് എന്ന പുസ്തകം ദിവ്യ എസ് അയ്യര്‍ മുതിര്‍ന്ന കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് ഇ.പി. പീറ്റര്‍ക്ക് ആദ്യ കോപ്പി നല്‍കി പ്രകാശിപ്പിച്ചു. ഗ്രീന്‍ ബുക്സ് എം.ഡി. നരേന്ദ്രന്‍, അക്കാദമി വൈസ് ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍മാരായ അനൂപ് രാധാക്യഷ്ണന്‍, കെ.വി.എം. ഉണ്ണി, ട്രഷറര്‍ ബി. സജ്ജീവ് എന്നിവര്‍ ചടങ്ങില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

ആദ്യ ദിവസം രണ്ടാം പകുതിയില്‍ ടെക്നോപാര്‍ക്കിലെ ടൂണ്‍സ് അനിമേഷനില്‍ നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില്‍ ഐ.എസ്.ആര്‍.ഒ. മുന്‍ ചെയര്‍മാനും കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി വിശിഷ്ടാംഗവുമായ ഡോക്ടര്‍ എസ് സോമനാഥ് ആമുഖ പ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. ടൂണ്‍സ് സി.ഇ.ഒ. പി ജയകുമാര്‍ മീഡിയ ഗ്രൂപ്പ്  മുഖ്യാതിഥിയായിരുന്നു. ക്യാമ്പ് അംഗങ്ങള്‍ ടൂണ്‍സ് അനിമേഷന്‍ സ്റ്റുഡിയോ സന്ദര്‍ശനം ആദ്യ ദിവസം നടത്തി.

രണ്ടാം ദിവസമായ ആഗസ്റ്റ് 9 ന് കോവളം സാഗര ബീച്ച് റിസോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ നടന്ന ക്യാമ്പില്‍ ടൂണ്‍സ് അനിമേഷന്‍ വൈസ് ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ എ. എസ്. വിനോദിന്‍റെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ എഐ വിഷയത്തിലും, ഡിജിറ്റല്‍ ഡ്രോയിങ്ങ് രംഗത്തെ കുറിച്ച് ആന്‍റണിയും നയിച്ച സെഷനുകള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായി. വൈകീട്ട് 4ന് കോമിക്സിന്‍റെ കേരള ചരിത്രം, ഒരു പഠനം എന്ന  കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി മുന്‍ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ എം. എം. മോനായി രചിച്ച് കേരള മീഡിയ അക്കാദമി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച പുസ്തകം കോവളം ക്യാമ്പില്‍ പ്രകാശനം ചെയ്തു. കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍ സുധീര്‍നാഥിന്‍റെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷതയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന യോഗത്തില്‍ ഡോക്ടര്‍ എസ് സോമനാഥ് ആദ്യ പ്രതി ടൂണ്‍സ് മീഡിയ ഗ്രൂപ്പ് സി.ഇ.ഒ. പി. ജയകുമാറിന് നല്‍കിയാണ് പ്രകാശനം നിര്‍വഹിച്ചത്. ചടങ്ങില്‍ അഡ്വ: എം. എം. മോനായി, കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറി എ സതീഷ്, കേരള മീഡിയ അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറി അനില്‍ ഭാസ്ക്കര്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ സംസാരിച്ചു. 

മൂന്നാം ദിവസമായ ആഗസ്റ്റ് 10ന് കോവളം സാഗര ബീച്ച് റിസോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ തന്നെയാണ് ക്യാമ്പ് നടന്നത്. കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി അംഗങ്ങളില്‍ ഡിജിറ്റല്‍ രംഗത്ത് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നവര്‍ ഉണ്ട്. അവരുമായുള്ള സംവാദമായിരുന്നു ആദ്യം. പ്രതാപന്‍ പുളിമാത്ത്, സജ്ജീവ് ബാലക്യഷ്ണന്‍, രതീഷ് രവി, അനൂപ് രാധാക്യഷ്ണന്‍, സുരേഷ് ഡാവിഞ്ചി എന്നിവര്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത് സംസാരിച്ചു. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ ടൂണ്‍സ് അനിമേഷന്‍ വൈസ് ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ എ എസ് വിനോദും, ആര്‍ട്ടിഫിഷല്‍ ഇന്‍റലിജന്‍സില്‍ പ്രൊജക്റ്റ് മാനേജര്‍ കൂടിയായ അക്കാദമി മുന്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി തോമസ് ആന്‍റണിയുടെ മകന്‍ ഉല്ലാസ് ആന്‍റണി എന്നിവരും ക്യാമ്പ് അംഗങ്ങളോട് സംവദിച്ചു.
