Minister and Children Pay Tribute to Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti Through Drawings
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, when Gandhi memorial events resonate across the country, a tribute was paid to the Father of the Nation through drawings. At the Cartoon Conclave being held at Thevara S.H. College, Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian inaugurated the Gandhi Smriti Drawing event by sketching Gandhi. The minister said that despite the rapid spread of information technology and major advances in photography and animation technology, and despite the growth of comics, social media, trolls, and similar media, cartoons still have a strong influence on people's minds.
Minister Saji Cherian recalled that the current situation is similar to the period when Indira, the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, imposed the Emergency. He said that anyone can understand this through careful observation. Gandhi made life a quest for truth. He continued that search until his death. Minister Saji Cherian said that after Gandhi’s death, we too continue the search to understand Gandhi.
The Gandhi Smriti live drawing event, led by Sacred Heart College Principal Dr. C. S. Biju, S.H. School of Communication Director Babu Joseph, and Cartoon Conclave Director Anoop Radhakrishnan, was first drawn by noted cartoonist Ravishankar, Lalit Kala Akademi Secretary Balamurali Krishnan, and Kerala Cartoon Academy Chairman Sudheer Nath. Later, the students and cartoonists participating in the camp also paid tribute to Gandhi through their drawings. As part of the Cartoon Conclave, a special exhibition of Gandhi cartoons has also been arranged.
