Shankarankutty Book Cover Award
The award was decided by a judging committee chaired by senior IAS officer T.K.A. Nair, with cartoonist P.V. Krishnan, E.P. Peter, Deepika Associate Editor George Kallivayalil, and senior journalist N. Ashokan as members. This year's Book Cover Award was presented to Balakrishnan, who works as an illustrator and cover designer under the name "Ulliyerikkaran." He is an artist with *Grihalakshmi*, published by Mathrubhumi. The award, instituted by the Shankarankutty Memorial Trust in association with the Kerala Cartoon Academy, consists of ₹10,001, a citation, and a plaque. The award was given for the cover design of A. Sajeevan's book *Guro Porukkuka*.
Balakrishnan, who works under the name "Ulliyerikkaran" as an illustrator and cover designer, is an artist with *Grihalakshmi*, a Mathrubhumi publication. He is a native of Ulliyeri, Kozhikode. The award was presented for the cover design of A. Sajeevan's book *Guro Porukkuka*. Director Jayaraj presented the award at a function held at the Kottayam Press Club on April 22, 2016. Prof. C.R. Omanakuttan, Malayala Manorama Editorial Director Thomas Jacob, Mangalam Chief Editor Sabu Varghese, and others attended the function. Members of the award selection committee, including cartoonist P.V. Krishnan, E.P. Peter, and George Kallivayalil, also attended. Block-making expert C.K. Kurian (Thankachan, Kottayam) was honored at the event. He explained traditional block-printing methods to the audience.

മുതിര്ന്ന ഐഎഎസുകാരനുമായ ടികെഎ നായര് അധ്യക്ഷനും, കാര്ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പിവി ക്യഷ്ണന്, ഇ പി പീറ്റര്, ദീപിക അസോസായറ്റ് എഡിറ്റര് ജോര്ജ്ജ് കള്ളിവയലില്, മുതിര്ന്ന മാധ്യമ പ്രവര്ത്തകന് എന് അശോകന് എന്നിവര് അംഗങ്ങളായ ജഡ്ജിങ് കമ്മിററിയാണ് പുരസ്ക്കാര നിര്ണയം നടത്തിയത്. ഈ വര്ഷത്തെ പുസ്തക കവര് അവാര്ഡ് ലഭിച്ചത് ഉള്ള്യേരിക്കാരന് എന്ന പേരില് ചിത്രരചനയും കവര് ഡിസൈനിങ്ങും ചെയ്യുന്ന ബാലകൃഷ്ണന് ലഭിച്ചു. മാതൃഭൂമിയുടെ ഗൃഹലക്ഷ്മിയില് ആര്ട്ടിസ്റ്റാണ്. 10,001 രൂപയും പ്രശംസാപത്രവും ഫലകവും ഉള്പെടുന്നതാണ് ശങ്കരന് കുട്ടി സ്മാരക ട്രസ്റ്റ്, കേരള കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമിയുടെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ ഏര്പ്പെടുത്തിയ പുരസ്ക്കാരം. എ. സജീവന്റെ ഗുരോ പൊറുക്കുക എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ കവര് രൂപകല്പനയ്ക്കാണ് അവാര്ഡ്. ഉള്ള്യേരിക്കാരന് എന്ന പേരില് ചിത്രരചനയും കവര് ഡിസൈനിങും ചെയ്യുന്ന ബാലകൃഷ്ണന് മാതൃഭൂമി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണമായ ഗൃഹലക്ഷ്മിയില് ആര്ട്ടിസ്റ്റാണ്. കോഴിക്കോട് ഉള്ള്യേരി സ്വദേശിയാണ്. എ.സജീവന്റെ ഗുരോ പൊറുക്കുക എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ കവര് രൂപകല്പനയ്ക്കാണ് അവാര്ഡ്. 2016 ഏപ്രില് 22ന് കോട്ടയം പ്രസ്സ് ക്ലബില് നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില് സംവിധായകന് ജയരാജ് അവാര്ഡ് സമ്മാനിച്ചു. പ്രൊഫ. സി.ആര്. ഓമനക്കുട്ടന്, മലയാള മനോരമ എഡിറ്റോറിയല് ഡയറക്ടര് തോമസ് ജേക്കബ്ബ്, മംഗളം ചീഫ് എഡിറ്റര് സാബു വര്ഗ്ഗീസ് തുടങ്ങിയവര് ചടങ്ങില് പങ്കെടുത്തു. അവാര്ഡ് നിര്ണയ സമിതി അംഗങ്ങളായ കാര്ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് പി വി ക്യഷ്ണന്, ഇ പി പീറ്റര്, ജോര്ജ്ജ് കള്ളിവയലില് എന്നിവരും പങ്കെടുത്തു. ബ്ലോക്ക് മേക്കിങ് വിദഗ്ധന് സി കെ കുര്യനെ (തങ്കച്ചന്, കോട്ടയം) ചടങ്ങില് ആദരിച്ചു. ബ്ലോക്ക് ഉപയോഗിച്ചുള്ള പ്രിന്റിങ്ങ് രീതികള് അദ്ദേഹം സദസിന് വിവരിച്ചു.
