Nipin Narayanan Receives the APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Star Cartoonist Award
With the aim of identifying and encouraging the best young cartoonists, the Kerala Cartoon Academy and Toonz Animation jointly organized a state-level cartoon competition. Nipin Narayanan (Kannur) was selected for the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial Star Cartoonist Award. Kiran Ramesh (Malappuram) and Subin Krishnan Kutty (Kozhikode) won the first and second prizes respectively.
Encouragement awards were presented to Athira Menon V. (Ernakulam), Mohammed Hisham T. (Malappuram), Dilna Sherin P.P. (Malappuram), Neelakanta Sharma (Kottayam), Ashwanth K. (Kozhikode), Devadevan (Kottayam), and Shreyaja J.R. (Kannur). The special award was won by Anaida Stanley (Ernakulam).
The award ceremony was held on February 14, 2016, at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club under the chairmanship of Academy Chairman Prasannan Anikkad. Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court K.G. Balakrishnan presented the awards. Senior journalist N. Ashokan and Thiruvananthapuram Press Club President Ajith Kumar were the chief guests.
Retired Wing Commander M. Narayanan, Executive Director of Toonz Academy, Cartoon Academy Secretary Sudheer Nath, and Toonz Chief Animator Vinod Kumar also spoke at the event. Anjan Satheesh, the Cartoon Academy icon who had won the National Award for Outstanding Creative Talent among Persons with Disabilities, was also honored during the ceremony.

യുവ തലമുറയിലെ മികച്ച കാര്ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളെ കണ്ടെത്തി പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുക എന്ന ഉദ്ദേശത്തോടെ കേരള കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമിയും ടൂണ്സ് അനിമേഷനും ചേര്ന്ന് നടത്തിയ സംസ്ഥാന കാര്ട്ടൂണ് മത്സരത്തില് ഡോ.എ.പി.ജെ.അബ്ദുള് കാലാം സ്മാരക സ്റ്റാര് കാര്ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് അവാര്ഡിന് നിപിന് നാരായണന് (കണ്ണുര്) അര്ഹനായി. കിരണ് രമേശ്(മലപ്പുറം), സുബിന് കൃഷ്ണന് കുട്ടി (കോഴിക്കോട്) എന്നിവര്ക്കാണ് ഒന്നും രണ്ടും സമ്മാനങ്ങള്. പ്രോത്സാഹന സമ്മാനങ്ങള് ആതിരാ മേനോന് .വി (എറണാകുളം), മുഹമ്മദ് ഹിഷാം.ടി (മലപ്പുറം), ദില്ന ഷെറിന്.പി.പി (മലപ്പുറം), നീലകണ്ഠ ശര്മ (കോട്ടയം), അശ്വന്ത്.കെ (കോഴിക്കോട്), ദേവദേവന് (കോട്ടയം), ശ്രേയജ.ജെ.ആര്(കണ്ണൂര്) എന്നിവരും അര്ഹരായി. പ്രത്യേക അവാര്ഡ് അനൈഡ സ്റ്റാന്ലി (എറണാകുളം) കരസ്ഥമാക്കി.
2016 ഫെബ്രുവരി 14ന് അക്കാദമി ചെയര്മാന് പ്രസന്നന് ആനിക്കാടിന്റെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷതയില് തിരുവനന്തപുരം പ്രസ് ക്ലബ്ബില് നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില് സുപ്രീം കോടതി മുന് ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് കെ.ജി. ബാലകൃഷ്ണന് സമ്മാനദാനം വിര്വഹിച്ചു. മുതിര്ന്ന മാധ്യമ പ്രവര്ത്തകന് എന് അശോകന്, തിരുവനന്തപുരം പ്രസ്സ് ക്ലബ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് അജിത്ത് കുമാര്, എന്നിവര് മുഖ്യ അതിഥികളായിരുന്നു. ടൂണ്സ് അക്കാദമി എക്സിക്യട്ടീവ് ഡയറക്ടര് റിട്ട. വിങ് കമാന്ഡര് എം.നാരായണന്, കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറി സുധീര് നാഥ്, ടൂണ്സ് ചീഫ് ആനിമേറ്റര് വിനോദ് കുമാര് എന്നിവര് സംസാരിച്ചു. ഭിന്നശേഷിയുള്ളവര്ക്കിടയിലെ മികച്ച സര്ഗപ്രതിഭയ്ക്കുള്ള ദേശീയ പുരസ്ക്കാരം നേടിയ കാര്ട്ടൂണ് അക്കാദമി ഐക്കണ് അഞ്ജന് സതീഷിനേയും ചടങ്ങില് ആദരിച്ചു.
