On March 1, 2009, at the Ernakulam Government Guest House, wax statues of cartoonist Shankar and Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, created as part of the Kerala Cartoon Academy's 25th anniversary memorial, were unveiled by Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy. The concluding session that followed was presided over by Chairman Adv. M. M. Monayi. Newly elected Rajya Sabha MP P. Rajeev, Prof. K. V. Thomas MLA, K. Babu MLA, Bevwatch MD Narayanan, and others spoke at the event. During the ceremony, all the senior cartoonists who were distinguished members of the Cartoon Academy were honored.
On the afternoon of March 1, 2009, the Kerala Cartoon Academy's annual general meeting was held. Secretary Sudheer Nath presented the report, and Treasurer Sajeev presented the accounts. The meeting, chaired by M. M. Monayi, actively reviewed and discussed the Academy's activities. The meeting also elected a new office-bearer committee.
The newly elected office-bearers were: Chairman – Prasannan Anikkad; Secretary – Sudheer Nath; Vice Chairmen – E. P. Peter, Balu, and V. R. Sathyadev; Joint Secretary – Surendran Varachal; Treasurer – M. S. Mohanachandran. The following were elected as Executive Committee members: Jayaraj Velloor, Anuraj, Santhosh T. S., Suresh N., Kollam Pappachan, Abba Vazhur, Biju Chandran, Murali K. Mukundan, Dwijith Payyannur, and Father Jose Punamadam. The Executive Committee assigned Karthika Kattanam responsibility for exhibitions and Naushad responsibility for Aniyug.
