Wax Statue
The Kerala Cartoon Academy completed twenty-five years. To commemorate the occasion, and at the Academy's request, the Kanyakumari Baywatch Wax Museum cooperated by creating two wax statues. The statues are of cartoonist Shankar, the father of Indian political cartooning, and former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who loved cartoons and encouraged cartoonists and was Shankar's close friend.
Before the final finishing work on the statues, an event was organized at Kayamkulam on June 22, 2008, to show the statues to the Academy's first chairman, Yesudas, and Cultural Minister M. A. Baby, both of whom had seen Shankar and Nehru in person, so that they could suggest any changes.
Cartoonists Nathan, S. Mohan, Prasannan Aanikkad, Naushad, Jithesh, N. Suresh, K. K. Suresh, Thomson, Kerala Cartoon Academy Secretary Sudheer Nath, Kayamkulam MLA C. K. Sadasivan, along with the directors and staff of Baywatch and other invited guests, gathered at sculptor Sunil Kandaloor's workshop.
