 **Thekkady Nature Conservation Cartoon Camp**

The Kerala Cartoon Academy, in association with the Kerala State Forest Department, organized a three-day camp from December 16 to 18, 2007. In addition to cartoonists from Kerala, cartoonists from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also participated in the camp. Forest Minister Binoy Viswam inaugurated the three-day camp at a meeting held in the Vanasree Auditorium in Thekkady. The meeting was presided over by Chairman Adv. M.M. Monayi. During the function, the minister presented the Gafoor Award to cartoonist Yesudasan and the Academy Fellowship to cartoonist Toms.

Those who spoke at the event included cartoonist Narendra, Managing Trustee of the Indian Institute of Cartoon from Karnataka; C.P. Kalkar, IFS, Field Director of Project Tiger, Forest Department; Akshaya Director V.R. Ajith Kumar; Arun M.; Prasannan Anikkad; and Sadheernath.

The second day of the Thekkady camp began with a boat ride through the reservoir. The participants had the opportunity to directly experience the beauty of the forest, its wildlife and birds, as well as the Mullaperiyar Dam, which has been the subject of numerous cartoons. Akshaya Director V.R. Ajith Kumar and SPACE Coordinator M. Arun conducted a highly informative demonstration introducing cartoonists to the world of computers.

The Academy Chairman, Adv. M.M. Monayi, presented the forest-themed cartoons created by the cartoonists during the camp to D.F.O. Padma Mehanti. Trekking and the campfire provided unique experiences for the participants. The three-day camp concluded on the third day with another round of boating.

More than 30 cartoonists attended the camp, including senior cartoonists such as Yesudasan, Toms, P.V. Krishnan, Nathan, John Kakanad, Peter, and Thomas Antony, as well as cartoonists from Karnataka including Narendra, Pandu Ranga Rao, and Gujjarappa.

കേരള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ അക്കാദമി കേരള സംസ്ഥാന വനംവകുപ്പുമായി ചേര്‍ന്ന് 2007 ഡിസംബര്‍ 16 മുതല്‍ 18 വരെ നീണ്ട ക്യാമ്പ് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. കേരളത്തിലെ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളെ കൂടാതെ തമിഴ്നാട്ടില്‍ നിന്നും കര്‍ണ്ണാടകത്തില്‍ നിന്നുമുള്ള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളും ക്യാമ്പില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തിരുന്നു. വനം മന്ത്രി ബിനോയ് വിശ്വം ത്രിദിന ക്യാമ്പ് തേക്കടി വനശ്രീ ആഡിറ്റോറിയത്തില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന യോഗത്തില്‍ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു.ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ അഡ്വ. എം.എം. മോനായിയുടെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായിരുന്നു. ഗഫൂര്‍ പുരസ്കാരം കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് യേശുദാസനും അക്കാദമി ഫെല്ലോഷിപ്പ് കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് ടോംസിനും ചടങ്ങില്‍ മന്ത്രി സമ്മാനിച്ചു. കര്‍ണ്ണാടകയില്‍ നിന്ന് ക്യാമ്പില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത ഇന്‍ഡ്യന്‍ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിന്‍റെ മാനേജിംഗ് ട്രസ്റ്റി കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് നരേന്ദ്ര, വനംവകുപ്പ് പ്രൊജക്ട് ടൈഗര്‍ ഫീല്‍ഡ് ഡയറക്ടര്‍ സി.പി. കല്‍ക്കര്‍ ഐ.എഫ്.എസ്, അക്ഷയ ഡയറക്ടര്‍ വി.ആര്‍. അജിത്ത് കുമാര്‍, അരുണ്‍ എം., പ്രസന്നന്‍ ആനിക്കാട്, സധീര്‍നാഥ് തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ സംസാരിച്ചു. തേക്കടി ക്യാമ്പിന്‍റെ രണ്ടാം ദിനം തുടങ്ങിയത് റിസര്‍വോയറിലൂടെയുള്ള ബോട്ടുയാത്രയോടെയാണ്. വനഭംഗിയും വന്യമൃഗങ്ങളെയും പക്ഷികളെയും നിരവധി കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകള്‍ക്ക് വിഷയമായ മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാര്‍ ഡാമും ക്യാബംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നേരിട്ട് അനുഭവിച്ചറിയാന്‍ സാധിച്ചു. അക്ഷയ ഡയറക്ടര്‍ വി.ആര്‍. അജിത്ത്കുമാറും സ്പെയിസ് കോ-ഓര്‍ഡിനേറ്റര്‍ എം. അരുണും ചേര്‍ന്ന് കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളെ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടര്‍ ലോകത്തിലേയ്ക്ക് കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന ഡമോണ്‍സ്ട്രേഷന്‍ നടത്തിയത് ഏറെ വിജ്ഞാനപ്രദമായിരുന്നു. ക്യാമ്പില്‍ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ രചിച്ച വനം വിഷയമായ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണുകള്‍ അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ അഡ്വ. എം.എം. മോനായി ഡി.എഫ്.ഒ, പത്മ മെഹന്തിക്ക് സമ്മാനിച്ചു. ട്രക്കിങ്ങും ക്യാമ്പ് ഫയറും ക്യാബംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വേറിട്ട അനുഭവമായി. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം ഒരുവട്ടം കൂടി ബോട്ടിംഗ് നടത്തിയതോടെ ത്രിദിന ക്യാമ്പ് സമാപിച്ചു. മുതിര്‍ന്ന കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളായ യേശുദാസന്‍, ടോംസ്, പി.വി. കൃഷ്ണന്‍, നാഥന്‍, ജോണ്‍കാക്കനാട്, പിറ്റര്‍, തോമസ് ആന്‍റണി തുടങ്ങിയവരെ കൂടാതെ കര്‍ണ്ണാടകയില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകളായ നരേന്ദ്ര, പാണ്ടു രങ്ക റാവു, ഗുജ്ജാരപ്പ തുടങ്ങി 30ല്‍ പരം കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ ക്യമ്പിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
